Dundee is an excellent centre for travelling in Scotland. The other main cities such as Aberdeen, Perth, Glasgow and Edinburgh are all within an hour and a half away, and Inverness and the Highlands are about 2 hours away, travelling through magnificent countryside - all superb day trips.
The fame of our City was Jam, Jute and Journalism. Well known for Keiller marmalade, and famous throughout the world are Desperate Dan, Oor Wullie and The Sunday Post.
Other places of interest in Dundee itself include Discovery Point which is a centre where Captain Scott's ship Discovery is berthed, returned to the City where she was built many years ago for her historic voyage to the Antarctic; the Frigate Unicorn, the oldest wooden British battleship afloat; the Mills Observatory, Britains only full-time public observatory; the Museum, the Art Gallery and an excellent Casion and Leisure Centre.
The River Tay on the banks of which Dundee is built, is world famous for salmon fishing.
Within the Tayside area, there are many parks, country parks, forest walks, gardens and stately homes to visit, including Glamis Castle, the childhood home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother.
William Wallace - Braveheart - was educated in Dundee, and you can visit the site of the castle of Dundee, said to be the place where he struck the first blow for Scottish Independence in 1288 AD.

Nearby Kirriemuir, J.M.Barrie's birthplace and the site of The Window in Thrums is also the gateway to the beautiful glens of Angus, which are a walker's treat.
