Dunlaw House is a traditional Victorian Villa built around 1850 in one of the conservation areas of Dundee called “The Crescents” which was an area of The Meadows or original “bleaching/drying greens” of the City. The buildings around The Crescents were probably merchant’s villas or manager’s houses of the various mills.
For those who would like to dig into the area history or their own history in Dundee, (spelled Dunde around the 1300’s) our Tourist Board can assist with details of researching – meantime we have written a few historical notes on our “History ” page.
Dunlaw House was changed to a Hotel around 1960’s and has only had a few long term owners since then – the Robbie’s having been here for 25 years and although trying to keep the traditional look of a Victorian Villa, have kept in tune with modern ideas of hotel life and comfort such as WiFi, Freeview TV/DVD, complimentary tea/coffee tray, comfortable beds, and specialist toiletries just like what we would like ourselves if we were away from home. It has always been our policy to try to create a “home from home” especially for those who may stay for a period of time.
We have a patio with a lovely view of the River Tay in our prize winning garden which has many interesting plants coming up through the seasons and a small pond all of which you are welcome to enjoy.
